Ways to kill off a parent character in a story?

Realistically, death happens thousands of times per day to pple all over. Other than illnesses or CAR accidents, a murder cud take place. a home invasion with guns happens every once in a while in neighbourhoods or a bank robbery; Or an innocent civillian in the midst of gunfire btw gangs, the police...or an accident like slipping on ice, or falling down the stairs bumping the head. Drowning while @ the beach. Suffocating on food when no one was around to help. Suicide, pill overdose. Things like tat. Hope this helps.
